Using NASSGAP Survey Data

Each year, the National Association of State Student Grant and Aid Programs (NASSGAP) completes a survey of state-funded expenditures for postsecondary student financial aid. The survey documents the important role states play in providing financial assistance to postsecondary students, including lower-income students, future teachers, veterans, and students who have experienced hardship.

PDF's of the "Annual Survey Report on State-Sponsored Student Financial Aid" are available under the "Annual Survey Reports" link above. The "Custom Query Tool" allows users to develop and execute specific queries for information against the survey database. The "Program Quick Finder" can help users develop a list of state programs that meet selected criteria. The "State Data Check" allows exploration of some of the data behind the summary tables in the Annual Survey Reports. "Survey Supporting Information" includes a copy of the most recent survey instrument with question clarifications, inflation tables and other items of interest.

Additional queries can be developed and run against survey data on specific subjects or for more detailed comparisons. Please feel free to contact NASSGAP at the link in the footer of this page if you have questions about the survey data, survey data interpretation, or would like to request a custom data extract.
